Excerpt from “ChinUp, You Got This”, Chapter: Abraham Faith

“Although it was a hard choice once I made up my mind, it was over. I was committed to moving to California to fulfill this 15-year dream of mine and to obey God.

I worked the entire summer to save money, and any job I could get I was doing. From selling coffee to working parades, to working at the airport, I was everywhere. I went out to dinners and partied with special friends from my childhood and family before I left. Fortunately, my mentor and spiritual mother kept telling me, “God says you have to have “Abraham Faith!” I took this saying seriously, and I knew that I needed faith to move. I had no connections or anything.

In order to build my faith, I consistently read Genesis 12 “Now God said to Abraham: get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great.” Genesis 12:1-2 (NIV)

I was like Abraham. I had to leave everything that I knew, my siblings, friends, business opportunities and connections. It was so hard to leave my brother and sister they were my everything, but I had to put my trust in God and believe that He was going to provide for me in this new environment. This was terrifying, but I had to do it. This was a chin-up, you got this.. moment for me.”
