Robin Antin is a dancer, choreographer, producer and entrepreneur. She is considered one of the most highly admired choreographers and businesswomen in the dance industry.
Q: What are you most passionate about? “I started my journey as a dancer and have never stopped, since the age of 9. It is who I am. It is what I love and am so passionate about, so everything I do will always tie back to dance, one way or another. My Dance Studio, Playground LA is my main project that I am so proud of! My partner and I are working on franchising and creating more Playgrounds for everyone! It’s special to me to see the joy everyday it’s brought to not just the dance community, (we have the best dancers, teachers, choreographers in the world) but to people who aren’t pro dancers and want to learn how to dance and never feel judged. My family is so supportive and proud of me, so that makes me prouder than anything… I am also so proud of being able to say that I created The Pussycat Dolls.”
Q: How do you describe the power of being female? “Owning your femininity, owning your sexuality and everything that comes with being a woman, is a big part of why and how I see myself as one of the many inspiring female role models out there. My role is to blaze trails for the women coming into this world, to give them a path to create their own world. In this male dominated business, I think I can say that I’ve gotten a tremendous amount of support in my partnerships with men, through showing them my strength and belief in my business and overall who I am as a woman. I do not try to separate myself between a man’s world and a woman’s world though. Because I’m a boss and have always thought like a boss, so I’m all about creating equal and positive business ventures, whether it’s with men or women, or both!”
Q: What advice do you have for women who want to be a boss in the creative space as you? “Work hard. It sounds cheesy but you have to work everyday as hard as you can to get what you want. Not everyone will understand you or your vision, but if you believe it, they will! I started on this journey when I was 20, but I still work today as if it’s a brand new day, brand new journey. This is my life’s work and it’s the result of working hard. My advice to all is: there’s always a way to make your dreams come true… but patience is key!”
Q: Tell us about your current projects. “I’m working on a Big project right now that I can’t talk about at this moment, ITS A SECRET! Shhhh… But my Dance Studio, The Playground LA is also my main project everyday that I am so proud of! My partner & I are Working on franchising, creating more Playgrounds for everyone! My studio is so special to me, to see the joy everyday it’s brought to not just the dance community, (we have the best dancers, teachers, choreographers in the world) but to people who aren’t pro dancers, & want to learn how to dance, & never feel judged, to get in shape, and over all, to leave feeling confident and connected w yourSELF.”
Q: What do you call yourself? As in a title? You are a woman of so many talents! “I’ve accomplished a lot and I’m really proud of it, but first and foremost I am a dancer. I started my journey as a dancer, and have never stopped since the age of 9. It is who I am. It is what i love & am so passionate about, so everything I do will always tie back to dance, one way or another.”
Q: There is so much you have accomplished, what is the one thing you are most proud of? “My family is so supportive and proud of me, so that’s makes more proud than anything… I am so Proud of being able to say that I created The Pussycat Dolls, and of course that I own my own Dance Studio, The Playground LA.“
Q: How do you describe your role as a woman? Q: What advice do you have for women who want to follow in your steps and create a successful multi platformed career? Were you able to do it all at once, the choreography, the shows and films (dance, workout), the clothing line, managing female singers) and then also Founder of Playground LA. Did we miss anything? “Work. Hard. It sounds cheesy but you have you have to work everyday as hard as you can to get what YOU want.. Not everyone will understand you or your vision, but if u believe it, they will! I started on this journey when I was 20, but I still work today as if it’s a brand new day, brand new journey, This is my life’s work and its the result of working hard. Advise to all is: there’s always a way to make your dreams come true.. but patience is key!”
Q: Is there advice that you would have for your younger self? “Belive in yourself, trust yourself, and keep going. It’s all worth it! And always be kind along the way!”
Q: What do you want your fans or audiences to know about you that they may not know? “My Grandfather was a tailor and taught me how to sew…he gave me a new sewing machine every year for my birthday, so I made every Pussycat Doll costume for the first 10 years…. We where then featured in Charlie’s Angels full Throttle Film, which was the first time I saw my costumes & designs come to life & made professionally…. but I’m proud to say I have kept every single costume!”
